The Lorax ♥
Not gonna lie, I was crying at the end of the movie! Not because it was particularly sad, but because I was happy. I was glad when the Once-ler saw the Lorax again :')

Also, when he cut down the first tree, and they made a stone grave for it or whatever that was, I was crying too.

Actually, I think I might be a little over-emotional.

Hahahah.
Hah.

{Why I Went To The Woods}
Yea so, I don't have a flash drive. I keep using Polyvore to print stuff out on! All way. Feel free to ignore this. I hate my AP Lang class and my essay sucks.

“Why I Went To The Woods”

Henry David Thoreau explains to his readers that a simplistic way of life is a far better way of living. He went to the woods to “live deliberately” and enjoy the simple pleasures of life. Why waste time on dwelling on new technological advances? His style of writing use many different cases of figurative language to help emphasize his thesis and explain his desertion of society.

Thoreau explains the day-to-day lives of people by using a simile to compare us to ants. We lack the originality to deviate from our course and instead choose to follow others. The ant only focuses on mindless, dull work like many people. Thoreau hammers it into our brain to slow down. Stop. Set aside your work. Look. Take in wholesome sights. Listen. Hear the call of a simpler, manageable life. By trying to keep up with our busy schedules, “our life is frittered away by detail.” Simplifying your life to only the bare necessities can teach one how to move away from a hectic lifestyle.

With our lives constantly moving and changing direction, we “cannot possibly keep our heads still.” Thoreau compares these complex movements to Saint Vitus' dance. This is the name for Sydenham's chorea disease that caused the infected person to have rapid, uncoordinated, and jerky movements. He makes the point that we hurry through our lives and waste valuable time that we could use for more worthy causes, like simplicity.

Thoreau concludes his excerpt with another metaphor which compares time to a stream. He can see the “sandy bottom” of the stream and detect how short life truly is. One should make good use of their time and not let it “[slide] away” too quickly. Even after you are gone, the stream is going to continue flowing for eternity. Thoreau wants to “suck out all the marrow of life” and not regret what he has done.

In all of Thoreau's techniques, there is a relation to the better ways of a simplistic way of life. The use of the figurative language helps to bring Thoreau's complicated, extravagant style to a level that a student can understand. The metaphors and similes add a deeper meaning to the context and allow the student to grasp the basic life that Thoreau wants to achieve by staying at Walden Pond.

Blah. If you're reading this in class or whatever, feel free to read my essay on some figurative language.
